NETS Re-Mixed

November 18th, 2005 by Christopher Harris

Jeff at The Thinking Stick had an interesting re-mix of the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS).

By replacing technology with information (Woo! Go Libraries!) had some very interesting results. For one, it certainly shows the alignment between NETS and Information Power. This connection between Information Power and technology skills has also been explored in some past conversations.

The re-mix also ends up reading like a roadmap for developing infomancers:

  • Students are proficient in the use of information.
  • Students develop positive attitudes toward information uses that support lifelong learning, collaboration, personal pursuits, and productivity.
  • Students employ information in the development of strategies for solving problems in the real world.
  • (The Thinking Stick)

Yeah, that’s what libraries are all about!

Thanks for the head’s up on the Thinking Stick entry. I forwarded the link to the ISTE Board (on which I sit).

I have been lobbying both ISTE and AASL to combine their student information and technology literature standards into a single, more powerful document. Maybe if the organizations heard the same request from lots of members, it might happen!
