Library/Technology

January 17th, 2006 by Christopher Harris

After a nice weekend visit from family and plenty of time pondering the final post from the School Library 2.0 series, here is a quick piece from Jeff at The Thinking Stick on the convergence of technology and libraries.

“My librarian wrote me an e-mail today and said that I’m becoming more like a librarian everyday. I wrote her back and said “No, you’re becoming more of a techie!” – Tech Library

Either way (and personally, I think it really is the first one, Jeff), it is great to hear about more librarians and technology coordinators working together to get “classes using information.” That is the bottom line, no matter what label we end up using to describe things.

I am Jeff,s librarian. As a library-tech team (notice the order that I use) we have been trying to come up with a catchy title to use. The favored one so far is: Media Information Teachers and Trainers. Better known as MITT. Thankfully we are still in the process of coming up with a catchy title.

Working with Jeff this year has been quite invigorating. I am starting a blog (slowly): we are now wireless in the library: I ordered my first e-books for the collection: and I am innundated with things to read from that pesky computer guy. All in all, a great reason for coming to work each day!

Hmm…does the MITT idea go along with Jeff’s bat? Sounds like some very exciting things are taking place there. It is always amazing to see the incredibly amplified learning potential when libraries and technology work together.
