Second Life Library 2.0

May 2nd, 2006 by Christopher Harris

As gas keeps creeping up towards a really European price per gallon, maybe you can supplement your trips to the local library with visits to the Second Life Library 2.0?

This is Lector Pixel, reporting live from inside the hot new spot to visit this summer, the virtual world of work and play known as Second Life. One of my favorite real-world bloggers, Christopher Harris at Infomancy, wrote a while back about Second Life being the next big thing to hit education. Sitting here in the rooftop classroom of the Library 2.0, I can’t help but think he may be on to something. Looking around, the skyline is crowded with new construction, a physio-virtual manifestation of the strengh of the L$ (our currency) now trading at roughly L$1000 for US$3.85. [As compared to the declining economy of Everquest2, a sister online realm, where the exchange rate keeps falling and 1000 Plat is now down to US$2.52!]

I am sending back some pictures for that Christopher guy to post on his blog so that you can experience the excitement of Second Life Library 2.0! Arriving at the library’s entrance, I was greeted by a nice white horse who seems to have since moved on to other pastures.

As with any well-stocked library, the hard part is deciding what book to check out. Luckily, since the Second Life Library 2.0 deals in e-books, they are always available for patrons!

I also spent some time up on the roof (and all my cares just drifted…right into space). Now this is the kind of staff development room more libraries need! Not a bad seat in the house, and if you need a quick break you can just fly away.

I hope you will have a chance to visit….
